Engine: The Honda CR-V LX 2WD is powered by a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. The Subaru Outback gets a weaker 2.5L 4-cylinder that only offers 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission and Drivetrain: Both SUVs include a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The base CR-V LX comes with 2WD, while all-wheel drive is standard for the Outback and optional for the CR-V.
MPG Ratings: Fuel economy ratings are comparable, but with its base engine and CVT, the CR-V LX 2WD earns 28 mpg city/34 mpg highway* versus 26 mpg city/33 mpg highway from the base Outback trim level with CVT.

Next in this comparison of the Subaru Outback and Honda CR-V is comfort. The CR-V offers a bit more room for passengers in the back seat than the Outback. The Subaru SUV will be a hit with tall drivers and their front-seat passengers since it has more head and legroom up front than the Honda CR-V.
