The 2020 Honda Odyssey has been a very popular seller. This hybrid SUV is good looking, offers plenty of power, and is loaded with utility. Previous model years are also holding up well, delivering satisfactory performance, functionality, and reliability- which the Honda brand is famous for. But a lot of new Odyssey drivers have questions about their oil changes. They want to how much oil they need, how often to change the oil, and what type of oil change is best. Here at Vern Eide Honda in Sioux Falls, South Dakota – our trained and certified Honda oil change experts will provide the parts and services you need to stay on the road safely and reliably all year long. Still, we understand people have questions.
The amount of oil your vehicle needs depends on the size of the engine and vehicle type. A four-cylinder car, for example, takes less oil than a six-cylinder engine vehicle or a V8. Most engines will require between 5 and 8 quarts of oil. A four-cylinder engine will need at least 5 quarts, whereas a six-cylinder engine will need at least 6 quarts- and a V8 is likely to top out around the higher end of the spectrum.
The recommendation for the Honda Odyssey is to have an oil change and oil filter replacement every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or every three to five months of regular use. If you bring your vehicle in for an oil change every 3,000 miles, or every three months – rather than pushing the limit of the recommended schedule – you are likely to extend the life of your Odyssey considerably. It may seem like more hassle and cost in the short term, but the time spent on major repairs and the expense you’ll avoid is well worth it.
In most cases, the optimal oil for many vehicles is a synthetic blend. However, the best oil for your Odyssey depends on the type of engine it has. A diesel engine should receive an oil change designed for that engine type. High performing engines generate more heat and friction and require a higher-performing kind of motor oil. In most cases, the manufacturer recommended oil change will be described in your owner’s manual. But if you have any questions, our certified Honda mechanics are sure to be able to answer your questions.
